Centrifugal pumps are the go-to equipment for transferring low-viscosity fluids at high flow rates: clarified water, treated effluent, process water or cooling water. Unlike a progressive cavity pump, they are not designed for viscous fluids or fluids with high solids content, but rather for moving large volumes continuously and efficiently.

In treatment plants they are typically used for recirculation, transfer between tanks, filter feed and pressurization of water supply networks.

How they work

A rotating impeller accelerates the liquid through centrifugal force, converting kinetic energy into pressure as it passes through the pump’s volute. This principle allows handling large flow rates with a simple, low-maintenance design, though it limits their use to low-viscosity fluids with low abrasive solids content.
